Born on January 20th, 1962 and raised in Dallas, Texas, Lee Rue Culp, Jr. loved playing tennis throughout his high school career. He attended Dallas public schools and worked for a company called Brentwood after receiving his education.

While incarcerated at the Stringfellow Unit in Texas, Lee became ill and was transported to a hospital in Houston on May 1, 2020. He soon tested positive for COVID-19, and on May 5, 2020, Lee passed away due to complications associated with the virus.

At 58 years old, Lee leaves behind a web of loving family and friends, including a brother and three sisters. He joins his mother, Mable Lee Culp-Robinson, and his father, Lee Rue Culp, Sr., who have both passed away.

Lee is one of more than 200 incarcerated individuals who have died as a result of the failure to contain the coronavirus in Texas prisons. His life, and so many others’ lives, were cut tragically short because of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice’s mismanagement of the COVID-19 outbreak.

Lee will be missed by the many who knew and loved him during his 58 years of life.
