Memorial by Brandilyn Parks

President of Kansas Coalition for Sentencing and Prison Reform

Gabe Morales was a light of hope to the incarcerated. When the men at El Dorado signed up for his class, they not only found an instructor with a contagious smile, but a friend, mentor, and leader!

When my husband first met him, it was a breath of fresh air! For the first time in his 30-year incarceration he found someone that wanted to help! He told him exactly what he needed to do to prepare for parole, he led him into his entrepreneurship class, and honestly tried to do everything he could to prepare my husband for reentry into the community.

He did this for every single person he came across, no matter the conviction. Gabe saw the incarcerated as human beings that needed guidance. He went out of his way to meet with people one on one to help any way that he could. The hope and light he gave to the incarcerated is irreplaceable. He will be missed by many that never got the opportunity to thank him for his outstanding efforts. His legacy will carry on throughout the system as a man of honor, hope, encouragement, and grace.

Farewell Mr. Morales, you will be deeply missed!
