I write this tribute with a heavy heart as I express my deepest sympathy to the Turenne Family and to all that knew Ella.

I met Ella through Inside-Out where her infectious smile, keen I sights, and graceful approach to discussing difficult topics was always appreciated. The multi-talented Ella was a force of nature in her desire to educate both insiders and outsiders to the realities of our failed criminal justice system. She was just as eager to learn from all stakeholders at each gathering.

Just knowing Ella was on our side was a source of comfort. Ella would often offer a perspective not yet brought into the conversation but do so in a kind and thoughtful way so as not to alienate but to stimulate further conversation.

A special memory occurred when Ella asked permission to sing a song at one event's closing ceremony. She surprised us by the beauty of her voice and delivering a song that I'm certain made the heavens smile. We were already in awe of this amazing person's other talents when this placed her in the stratosphere of abilities.

I will carry Ella's spirit with me as I continue to do this work. Thank you Ella for allowing me to be considered a friend and colleague. I considered you part of my family, too.
